Joseph J. Marusak adds a wealth of trial experience to Paul William Beltz, P.C. Immediately prior to joining the firm in May, 2005, Joe served as Deputy District Attorney, Chief Trial Counsel, for the Erie County District Attorney's Office in Buffalo, New York, where he tried approximately 55 homicide jury trials to verdict, obtaining guilty verdicts in all but one case. Following the successful prosecution of a homicide of a newborn, Joe co-authored two medical journal articles focusing upon prenatal injuries.
As a result of his hard work, Joe earned Prosecutor of the Year Award (twice) from the Buffalo Police Department; Arson Prosecutor of the Year from the New York State Fire Investigator's Association, and the Butler Award for Service from the Buffalo Police Benevolent Association. Joe has also lectured extensively on a wide variety of trial advocacy topics for the New York State and Erie County Bar Associations, the National College of District Attorneys, the New York State Prosecutor's Training Institute, and the Ontario Crown Counsel's Association.
Since 1996, Joe has served as an adjunct professor of trial advocacy at the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School. There he has coached three trial advocacy teams to regional championships in tournaments sponsored by the American Trial Lawyer's Association and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
Joe currently serves on the board of directors for three not-for-profit corporations: Big Brothers/Big Sisters of WNY; Cradle Beach Camp (a year-round facility dedicated to the education of children challenged by disabilities), and the Western New York Catamaran Association.
Joe resides in the Town of Tonawanda with his black Labrador, Louie.
